The Confluence Park Soil and Water Remediation project has hit a couple of snags throughout their journey to completion. One of those being the discovery of coal tar in May 2015 causing serious issues since coal tar is known to contain human carcinogens that are toxic to aquatic life. This prompted the collaboration with ESA. In order remove the coal tar they had to dewater the site and, once dry, remove the contamination, taking on the added risk of the environmental impacts of the project.
