Former Stapleton International Airport Redevelopment Project Denver, Colorado 2004 – present Greg Holt, City and County of Denver, Denver Int’l Airport Phone: (303)513-6317 Contract Value: Over $15,000,000 (ongoing) Abatement & Demolition One of the major strengths of ESA is our ability to administer both the abatement and demolition scopes of work on a project. Hangar 10 at the former Stapleton International Airport is a good example of this. ESA had both abatement crews and demolition crews working in conjunction to remove this hangar from the old airport site. The hangar was built large enough to encompass a jumbo jet. ESA also demolished the office building that housed the administrative functions for the hangar. The office space needed to be abated before demolition could occur. Once the hangar was cleaned out of all interior structures ESA worked with Chicago Explosives to implode the hangar structure – Demolition ESA also demolished three concrete bridges at the former Stapleton International Airport site. Two of the bridges were built to support taxiways at the airport and the third a cargo access road. The two taxiway bridges consisted of four bays per bridge and spanned more than 40 feet. The Western-most structure extended 764 feet along the Sand Creek waterway and the eastern-most structure extended 222 feet. Extra environmental controls were implemented in order to account for the unique challenge of working in a designated wetland area. This is an example of where our environmental expertise bolsters our ability to perform effectively in the demolition industry. Soil Remediation ESA identified, excavated, loaded, packaged and hauled over 300,000 cubic yards of friable and non-friable asbestos debris contaminated soil from the Former Stapleton International Airport redevelopment site. Working closely with City and County of Denver- DIA project management, URS Corporation, Family Environmental Compliance Services, and the Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment’s Solid Waste and Air Pollution Control Divisions, ESA prepared and successfully implemented a Soils Characterization and Management Plan under the recently adopted revisions to the Solid Waste Regulations. As the project progressed, ESA accommodated site development priorities by executing its work in phases - while maintaining our original quoted pricing. HAZMAT Throughout the project unidentified and Identified hazardous materials were uncovered or set aside for discard; ESA's Hazardous Materials Response Team is on call to quickly respond, identify, stabilize, and yield safe all chemical situations that require future profiling, manifesting, transportation, and disposal to EPA Regulated treatment, storage, and disposal facilities (TSDF) including; leaking PCB Transformers, UST fuel storage tanks, and biological waste. |
