ESA is particularly proud of this award as it showcases our expertise in complicated demolition projects involving hazardous materials. Award of this project was based on various factors including: strength of demolition plan, safety controls, as well as experience in managing projects of this scope and complexity.   This project particularly demonstrates our ability to offer turnkey services on tough abatement and demolition projects.

In 2008, the City of Laramie determined the building to be unsafe, and sought after qualified contractors to assess the hazard. ESA’s Demolition Division Manager Curt Creager, with over 30 years experience in the demolition industry, was contacted to construct an all-inclusive demolition plan comprising the assessment of the environmental hazards associated with this unique and complicated project. Assembling a professional team in 2008 to provide the City of Laramie with the comprehensive expertise required in this endeavor, Mr. Creager selected Spectrum Services, Inc. and JVA Engineers, Inc. for environmental monitoring and structural engineering services. After a Request For Proposal (RFP) process in May 2009, ESA was awarded the demolition and handling of all associated hazardous materials. Spectrum Services provided all of the project oversight, while ESA personnel hand dismantled the entire structure in order to prevent the collapse of two adjoining structures. When the structure was brought to the ground, ESA lined, loaded, and hauled trucks in order to safely transport the asbestos contaminated debris to a certified disposal facility.

The Veteran’s Administration
Client: GSA JV LLC.
Contact Information: Tom McManus (206) 459 - 9883
Contract Value: $1.2 million
Date: Sept. - Dec, 2009

In this teaming arrangement ESA, Inc. partnered with Garry Struthers and Associates to perform all of the management, asbestos abatement & demolition on these structures located on Veteran’s Administration property. This project is an example of ESA’s ability to offer turkey services to perform our clients’ abatement and demolition needs. We utilized our fleet of excavators to self perform all of the demolition. Asbestos abatement included floor tile, vinyl flooring abatement, as well as vermiculite insulation removal on one large structure (40,000 sf) and two smaller buildings. Additionally, ESA performed onsite milling of the asphalt from the parking lot.

ESA was awarded two separate contracts to perform all demolition, asbestos abatement, as well as soil remediation on this former military barracks building. Initially, ESA safely abated underground steam tunnels with asbestos piping. After safely removing these materials and surrounding soils, ESA performed all demolition of the site. Once the demolition was completed, testing was done on the soils within the building footprint. Casey Resources performed all of the oversite. ESA currently has an open contract to perform soils remediation on this site and surrounding area.

Contract Value: $900,000
Completion Date: August 2008

The Lowry project highlights ESA’s ability to perform abatement, demolition, as well as soil remediation.  ESA safely excavated contaminated soil in the crawlspaces of nine former Lowry Air Force buildings using our heavy duty Vac-loader.   Additionally, ESA abated friable asbestos from all of the structures in preparation for their demolition.  Once clean, ESA demolition crews brought the buildings safely to the ground using excavators.  Finally, a six-inch lift of soil was removed from each building footprint so that no materials would be left in the soil.

Downtown Denver Parking Structure

Contract Value: $450,000
Date: December 2006

ESA, Inc. took down a six story concrete parking structure one block north of the Colorado State Capitol in downtown Denver. The site was demanding due to the proximity of the two adjacent office buildings to both the North and South, Sherman Street to the east and an alley to the west. Extremely tight quarters, noise restrictions, and traffic issues were all challenges that added to the difficulty of this project.

Stapleton International Airport Bridge Demolition, Denver, Colorado

Contract Value: $1,5 Million

ESA, Inc. demolished three concrete bridges at the former Stapleton International Airport site. Two of the bridges were built to support taxiways at the airport and the third a cargo access road. The two taxiway bridges consisted of four bays per bridge and spanned more than 40 feet. The Western-most structure extended 764 feet along the Sand Creek waterway and the eastern-most structure extended 222 feet.  Extra environmental controls were implemented in order to account for the unique challenge of working in a designated wetland area.  This is an example of where our environmental expertise bolsters our ability to perform effectively in the demolition industry.

One of the major strengths of ESA, Inc. is our ability to administer both the abatement and demolition scopes of work on a project. Hangar 10 exemplifies this capacity. ESA had both abatement crews and demolition crews working in conjunction to remove this hangar - built large enough to encompass a jumbo jet - from the old Stapleton International Airport site. ESA was also tasked with demolishing an adjoining office building; again requiring ESA’s turnkey services of abatement and demolition rolled into one package. ESA worked with Chicago Explosives to implode the hangar structure, once the building was safe from unhealthy materials.
